Lake Brownwood State Park is taking part for the first time in the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day this Saturday, June 2. The public is invited to take part in a choice of two hikes at 10 am to commemorate the 20th annual National Trails Day.
Park officials invite everyone to meet a park ranger at the trailhead of the Texas Oak trail for a moderate difficulty hike of 1.5 miles to observe plants and wildlife and catch some great views of Lake Brownwood. Of if you prefer an easy to moderate hike, join a ranger at the pavilion next to the Group Recreation Hall and hike the Lakeside Trail (approx. 1mi.) showcasing the CCC’s development of Lake Brownwood’s rustic and beautiful state park.
Participants are encouraged to “bring plenty of water, sturdy shoes, binoculars, cameras and your favorite person to hike with as these hikes are open to anyone.”
The Friends of Lake Brownwood State Park will be present providing lemonade and ice pops after the hike. Park officials invite everyone to picnic and spend the afternoon swimming in the lake or hiking some more.
Entrance fees are $4 / person 13 and older. This event gives everyone even more reason to bring their kids and get them away from the TV and outside, getting summer off to a healthy start.

According to park officials, 140 people joined Lake Brownwood State Park on their 1st day hike on January 1st. Lake Brownwood State Park had the largest showing of any Texas state park by approximately 70 people during the event. Park officials hope the community will come and show their support for the park like this again.
