LakeBwdCDClogo Brownwood TXIt’s spring and that means it’s time to get ready for summer at Lake Brownwood.

Lake Brownwood Community Development Council in partnership with Brown County Water Improvement District’s Lake Patrol are asking area residents to help clear litter and debris from portions of the Lake Brownwood shoreline for a more enjoyable experience for everyone visiting the area.

The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 20th, 8:00 am at the Lake Dam.  Those wishing to participate are asked to meet early at the Lake Patrol Office at the Dam to register and be assigned to an area to clean.

Lake Patrol Officer Scotty Burke said that the cleanup is a vital aspect to maintaining the quality of the lake.  “Litter is dumped into the lake so we get glass, trash and lots of plastic bottles of all shapes and sizes on the shoreline,” said Burke. “It is unsightly and often times the garbage is not seen once the trees bloom and waters rise, so it is important to take care of it immediately.”

Burke said that the cleanup highlights the importance of proper trash disposal and clean water.

“We’ve had more than 100 volunteers before but it is really controlled by the weather because some are less apt to come out if the weather is bad,” said Burke. “We encourage people to dress accordingly, with gloves, long pants and boots or weatherproof shoes.  It is a really great opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty and give back to the community.”
