Howard Payne’s Tresta Donahoo hit a jumper as time expired in overtime to give the Lady Jackets a 79-77 victory over visiting Concordia University Texas Thursday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.
After the Lady Jackets found themselves down by as much as 13 points midway through the first half, they would battle back slowly to tie the game up at 49-49 with 9:38 to play in the second half.
It was Tresta Donahoo who hit 15 foot jumper as time expired in overtime to give Howard Payne the 79-77 conference win. The video made ESPN’s Top Ten Plays of the Week (#10).
The Lady Jackets reserves played a huge role in the HPU comeback outscoring Concordia’s bench 36-26. HPU’s Danyel Bradley scored 20 points with five steals followed by Kayla Scott with 11, both a part of the Lady Jacket the bench.
HPU was led by Senae Dillard with 22 points and nine rebounds. Dana Marrs also added 11 points.
CTX was led by Madison Kramr with 15 points and followed by Domonique Liddell with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Howard Payne improves to 15-3 overall and 10-2 in conference. The Lady Jackets remain in first place with a two game lead in the ASC West Division standings. Concordia falls 11-7 overall and 8-4 in ASC play.
The Lady Jackets will take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday at 1:00 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.

Poor second half shooting by the Howard Payne men’s basketball team leads to a 94-87 conference loss to Concordia University Texas Thursday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne shot 50% from the field in the first half to gain a 53-45 halftime advantage. HPU’s Christian Davis scored 15 of his 21 points in the opening half to spark the Yellow Jacket halftime lead.
The Jackets cooled off in the second shooting just 36% to finish 44% for the game. It was 27 HPU turnovers that also played a factor in the Jacket loss.
Concordia took the lead 66-65 with 11:38 to play. CTX used a 9-0 with eight minutes remaining to build a nine point lead. The Jackets were able to get within four, 84-80 with 3:29 on A Donovan Ford jumper. That was as close as Howard Payne would get falling 94-87.
HPU was led by Brandon Gould with a game high 23 points and a team high seven rebounds. Ford finished with 17 off the bench on 6 of 10 shooting.
Josh Sanchez led CTX with 18 points. Dwayne Patterson added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Darien Harris finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Howard Payne stands at 5-13 overall and 3-9 in conference. CTX improves to 14-4 overall and 9-3 in ASC play. The Jackets will play next on Saturday versus Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:00 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.
