ALPINE, Texas –Winning a Saturday double header 10-1 and 11-0, the Howard Payne University softball team completed the four game sweep of Sul Ross State University to improve to 6-4 in conference play.
The Lady Jackets got 10 runs off of nine hits in the first game. Bianca Ybarra recorded three hits followed by Elizabeth Alvarado and Tylene Middleton with two each. Middleton also had four RBI in the game.
Haleigh Caraway got the complete game win for Howard Payne allowing one run on seven hits.
Howard Payne used a trio of pitchers in game two with started Baillie Trumble being credited with the win. Trumble threw 3.0 innings allowing only two hits. Kayla Castillo and Jenna Allen saw one inning of work each in relief.
Five Lady Jackets had multiple hits in the game. Alvarado had four RBI followed by Middleton with two.
Howard Payne is now 8-16 overall and 6-4 in ASC play, while Sul Ross State remains winless at 0-22 overall and 0-12 in conference.
The Lady Jackets will play at home next Thursday and Saturday against Texas Lutheran University.
