The Howard Payne Lady Jacket basketball team defeated Goucher College 59-31 on day two of the Concordia University Texas Holiday Classic.
After leading 27-20 at the half, the Lady Jackets used a 17-0 run to start the second half to secure the game. Howard Payne held Goucher to just 11 second half points on the way to the 59-31 win.
The HPU defense swarmed Goucher holding them to 25% shooting in the game and 18% in the second half.
The Lady Jackets were led by Katy Sarem with a game high 16 points. She was followed by Brittany Roberson with 15 points and seven rebounds. Tresta Donahoo added seven points and Brittani Gattis had seven boards.
No Goucher player scored in double digits but Kiara Doughty grabbed a game high 13 rebounds and Amy Smith dished out four assists.
Howard Payne improves to 6-5 overall and Goucher remains winless on the year.
The Lady Jackets will have a three game home stand next week starting on Monday against ASC
opponent Sul Ross State University.
