The Howard Payne Lady Jacket basketball team has been picked to finish second in the American Southwest Conference West Division in the 2009 pre-season poll after a vote of each division’s head coaches, sports information directors and media members, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Three-time defending ASC champion Howard Payne (23-6, 16-5 ASC) was picked to finish second in the West, totaling 169 points and eight top-spot votes. The Lady Jackets have won four of the last five conference titles and claimed the NCAA III national championship in 2008.
Along with the eight returners, Howard Payne has six new faces to add to the mix. Three new players are junior college transfers.
Howard Payne will start their season at Fred Jacoby Tip Off Classic at the University of Texas at Dallas on November 20-21, 2009. They will play the University of Texas at Tyler on Friday and the University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday.
