The Howard Payne women soccer team ends the season with a 2-0 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor. The loss ending their hopes for an ASC Tournament berth.
A scoreless first half, but in the second UMHB was too much for HPU to handle. In the first half, UMHB and HPU were back and forth, UMHB having the shot advantage 8 to 4.
Five minutes into the second half, UMHB broke through when Jordan Powers connected with Mickie Arredondo to score the first goal of the game, taking the score to 1-0.
In the fifty-sixth minute, just six minutes after the first goal, Erin Salyer of UMHB found the back of the net off of a deflection to double the lead and take the demanding 2-0 lead.
After the two UMHB goals, HPU women had many chances but couldn’t finish. The game ended 2-0.
Although the HPU women got 8 shots on goal to UMHB’s 6, in the end Allyson Sargeant, UMHB Goal keeper’s 8 saves were the difference.
UMHB had the tip of the cap on corners with 7 to HPU’s 5. Fouls were about even HPU 6, UMHB 5.
HPU Goal Keeper, Kaitlyn Kelm had 3 saves on the day, allowing 2 balls behind her.
The HPU women finish the season 8-8-3 overall and 6-5-2 in the ASC. Mary Hardin-Baylor are on their way to the ASC tournament with an 11-5-0 overall record and 10-4-0 in conference.
