It was over as soon as it started as the Howard Payne University women’s basketball team scored the first 16 points of the game in an 101-30 pummeling of the Sul Ross State University Lady Lobos Monday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Seven Lady Jackets hit double digits in the game. Katy Sarem led all with 13, Jasmin Thomas, Brittany Roberson and Brittani Gattis had 12, while Tresta Donahoo and Kayla Scott had 11 and Keslie Satterwhite rounded it off 10 of her own.
HPU also out-rebounded SRSU 59-26, and finished with 22 assists on only 17 turnovers. For the game the Lady Jackets finished 56 percent from the field on 26-64 shooting.
The Lady Jackets defense was near perfect in the first half holding the Lobos to just nine first half points on seven percent shooting (2 of 29) from the floor.
Howard Payne women are now 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the American Southwest Conference action. The Sul Ross women go to 0-12 overall and 0-8 in the ASC.
The next game for the Lady Jackets is at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6 at the Brownwood Coliseum against East Texas Baptist University.
