The Howard Payne University volleyball team ended the season on a big high note with a 3-0 (30-28, 25-23, 25-21) win over American Southwest Conference West Division leader Hardin-Simmons University Tuesday evening.
It was the Lady Jackets first win over Hardin-Simmons in more than six years and the first for HPU head coach Ken Carver since taking over the program.
The match started with a marathon first set win for HPU 30-28. The Lady Jackets got out to early leads in the next two sets taking them 25-23 and 25-21.Howard Payne held the attack advantage in the match at .270 pct to .190 pct for HSU.
Howard Payne led by Tamika Heline with 16 kills. Sarah Bishop had her best match as a Lady Jacket with seven kills and a .400 attack pct. Senior Cathie Killmartin ended her career with a huge game as well with 11 kills and a .500 attack pct.
Hannah Hicks added seven kills and Amber Cantu-Curry had a match high 39 assists.
Christine Sas led HSU with 13 kills followed by Madison Reyes with 10.
Howard Payne ends the season at 11-16 overall and 5-13 in ASC play. Hardin-Simmons now stands at 16-7 overall and 12-4 in conference action.
