ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-12,25-23,25-10) to McMurry University in American Southwest Conference action Tuesday evening. Howard Payne led early in the first set 6-4 before McMurry rattled off eight straight points.
Howard Payne led late in the second set 18-13. However, McMurry outscored the Lady Jackets 12-5 in the final 17 points of the set. The third set was all McMurry closing the match with a 6-0 run.
The Lady Jackets got solid performances from Kerry Ward and Hannah Hicks with eight and five kills respectively. Kristin Hammond had a team high 14 digs and Jessica Guerra recorded 20 assists.
MJ Vickers led McMurry with 15 kills and Bailey Wilson added 14 digs.
Howard Payne now stands at 8-14 overall and 4-9 in conference play. McMurry is 21-2 overall and 11-2 in ASC action.
The Lady Jackets wlll play at home on Thursday against Schreiner University at 7:00 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.
