jacketbasketball_logoThe Howard Payne University Lady Jackets use a 9-0 run with four minutes left to regain the lead for good winning 66-61 over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Thursday evening.

The Lady Jackets were 15 of 16 (93.8%) from the free-throw line in the game. Free-throws proved to be the difference marker in the closing seconds, helping HPU secure the win. HPU was 4 of 4 from the line in the last 30 seconds.

Mary Hardin-Baylor held a 25-23 halftime advantage. Both teams shot poorly in the first, 29% for HPU and 28% for UMHB.

The Lady Jackets finished the game shooting 44% from the field and UMHB raised theirs to 34%.

Jasmin Thomas led HPU with 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting, 4 of 4 from the free-throw line. She also had four steals. Brittany Roberson dished out seven assists along with her nine points. Kayla Scott added 10.

UMHB was led by Lindsey Eaton with a game high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Landie Thompson added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Caitlin Barganier had six assists.

Howard Payne improves to 14-6 overall and 11-5 in ASC play. UMHB falls to 12-8 overall and 9-7 in conference action.

Howard Payne will be in Austin on Saturday to take on Concordia University Texas at 1:00 pm.
