hpubaseballThe Howard Payne softball team split a double header with Hardin-Simmons University on day two of their four-game series. The Lady Jackets fell in game one 0-2 but won in extra innings 10-9 in the second game.

HPU’s Elizabeth Alvarado was 4 of 4 from the plate in game one, but the Lady Jackets would fall 0-2. Hardin-Simmons scored single runs in the third and fifth innings.

Despite the loss, Baillie Trumble pitched solid for the Lady Jackets throwing 4.0 innings and giving up just one run on four hits. Kayla Castillo also saw time in relief.

In game two, the Lady Jackets won in the ninth inning when Carissa Zarate homered to left field to take the lead 10-9.

Howard Payne found themselves down three going into the seventh inning. HPU scored three in the top of the seventh to send it to extra innings.

Ashley Silva, Brittany Johnson, Carissa Zarate, and Tylene Middleton each had two hits in the game.
Haleigh Caraway got the win for HPU throwing 8.1 innings.

Howard Payne is now 12-20 overall and in conference play, while Hardin-Simmons sits at 19-13 overall and in ASC action.

The Lady Jackets next series will be next weekend at Concordia University Texas in Austin April 15th and 16th.
