SEGUIN, Texas – The Howard Payne women’s basketball team used 50% shooting from the field to defeated Texas Lutheran University 81-64 Thursday at Memorial Gymnasium.
The game remained close in the opening minutes but midway through the first half HPU was able to secure a slight lead. Shooting 48% from the field, the Lady Jackets lead Texas Lutheran 36-26 at the half.
The Lady Jackets held TLU to 33% for the game and just 26% from behind the arc. Howard Payne hit nine three-pointers (9 of 25) in the game and posted the 81-64 win.Howard Payne was led by Brittany Roberson and Tresta Donahoo with 13 points each. Clarissa Krum and Jasmin Thomas followed with 12 each. Thomas dished out four assists and had three steals. Tiffany Warner added 10. Krum also had a team high eight rebounds.
Rebecca Valdez led TLU with 19 points and seven rebounds. Jocelyn Langford had 10.
Howard Payne is now 11-5 overall and 8-4 in conference. Texas Lutheran stands at 6-10 overall and 5-7 in ASC play.
The Lady Jackets will be in Kerrville on Saturday taking on Schreiner University at 1:00 pm.
