The Howard Payne women’s basketball team defeated Schreiner University 82-54 Saturday at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Howard Payne shot nearly 55% from the field in the game and 46% (7 of 15) from behind the three-point line.
HPU held only an eight point halftime advantage, 38-30. The Lady Jackets started the second half with a 17-4 run and went on to lead by as much as 31.
Brittany Roberson led HPU with 15 points and four steals. Clarissa Krum had 13. Brittani Gattis added nine off the bench. Schreiner was led by Olivia Swanner with a game high 20 points, followed by Bailey Harris with 17.
Howard Payne improves to 16-7 overall and 13-6 in ASC play, while Schreiner falls to 5-18 overall and 3-16 in conference.
Howard Payne finishes out the regular season next week with home games against McMurry on Thursday and Hardin-Simmons on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets push in the final minutes came up short in a 77-88 loss to Schreiner University Saturday at the Brownwood Coliseum.
A two-point ballgame at halftime, both teams exchanged leads in the second. With 2:03 remaining in the game, the Jackets were down two, 70-72. Schreiner then scored eight straight points over the next minute to fend off the Jackets for the win.
Brandon Irwin led HPU with 20 points. Kanyon Payne had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Quentin Calloway had 13 and Michael Thompson added 10.
Riley Battle led Schreiner with a game high 31 points. Darren Smith had 19 and Tyrie Prince added 16.
HPU in now at 5-18 overall and 4-15 in ASC play. Schreiner sits at 10-13 overall and 8-11 in conference.
HPU will finish out the regular season next week at home on Thursday against McMurry and Hardin-Simmons on Saturday.
