The Howard Payne women’s soccer team was handed a tough 8-0 loss from Hardin-Simmons University Saturday afternoon at Citizens National Bank field.
Three goals in the first and five in the second from HSU was the lone story to the game. Seven different players got goals for HSU, only Austin Ricker had two.
The first was from Katie Kuykendall three minutes into the game. The second was scored on a ball taken from a HPU defender and finished by Amy Kuykendall to take the score 2-0 in the twelfth minute.
The last goal from HSU was from Austin Ricker. The first half ended 3-0, in favor of HSU. HSU had 15 shots total to HPU’s zero.
Eight minutes into the second, Miranda Bersosa assisted in Taylor Thigpen goal to take the lead to 4-0.
Starting at the 60 minute to the 76 minute HSU doubled their score from 4-0 to 8-0. The fifth goal from Carlyn Powers, sixth from Austin Ricker, seventh from Mickey Rogers, and the last from Chelsea Flores.
HSU ended the game with 15 shots on goal to the Jackets 1.
Howard Payne goal keeper, Kaitlyn Kelm had 8 saves on the day.
The Lady Jackets fall to 8-6-2 overall and 6-4-2 in the ASC, HSU stays undefeated in the ASC and move their record to 14-1-0 overall and 10-0-0 in conference.
The next game for the Lady Jackets is Tuesday, Oct. 27, on the road against non-conference opponent University of Dallas.
