volleyballlogoThe Howard Payne University volleyball team went 2-2 at the Austin College Tournament this weekend with wins over Texas College and the University of Dallas.

On Friday, HPU opened with a 3-0 (25-12,25-18,25-5) win over Texas College. Tamika Heline led all with 15 kills. Jessica Guerra had 19 assists and Sarah Bishop recorded eight kills.

Heline passed 1,000 career kills in the match against Texas College after last week passing 1,000 digs during the Colorado College Tournament. She also becomes the only player in HPU history to have over 1,000 in both categories.

The second match of the day for HPU saw the Lady Jackets falling to host Austin College 3-0 (16-25,20-25,23-25). Again Heline led HPU with 10 kills and 14 digs. Kristin Hammond had a team high 18 digs and Guerra had 12 assists.
On day two, HPU first dropped a five-game heart breaker 3-2 (25-22,25-23,14-25,18-25,11-15) to Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Heline finished with 14 kills and Hannah Hicks had a solid match with 12 kills and three total blocks.

The Lady Jackets bounced back in the second match defeating the University of Dallas 3-2 (25-14,25-23,17-25, 21-25, 15-9). Heline had 13 kills and 14 digs in the match. Hannah Hicks had four total blocks along with seven kills.

Howard Payne will play next at home on Tuesday versus conference opponent McMurry University at 7:00 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.
