Kason King of Zephyr recently participated in the sectional competition of the NFL’s Punt, Pass, and Kick contest and took home top honors in the 12-13 year-old boys division.

The sectional competition was held on October 19th at McMurry University in Abilene, where King took first place in his division.  Each participant was given one chance for a punt, a pass, and a kick.  These events were then scored based on the distance.

For scoring, the judges used a tape measure that was laid out directly in front of the starting mark. Points were taken away from the total according to the distance the football landed to either side of the tape measure. After all three events were completed, the totals were added together to give each participant a final score.

King had a final score of 301.8 feet in the sectional competition, improved from his local score of 197 feet 2 inches.

Sectional competitions across each state are combined into a region and results from the Abilene sectional will be combined with others across north Texas and Oklahoma.  From these results, the top 4 in each division move on to the team championships.  If King’s score is in the top 4 of his division within the region he will compete again at the Dallas Cowboys vs. Green Bay Packers game at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington.

Results from the sectional competitions will be posted by the end of November according to officials at the Abilene sectional.  32 Team Championship winners will then move on to the national competition which will be held at a January NFL playoff game to be announced.
