henryKeenan Dirk Henry was born June 24, 1955 and left this earth on June 8, 2013 due to complications from a stroke. Born at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, he was the firstborn son to Dale Henry and Jean (Wood) Sutton. With his father in the Air Force and later employed by Dowell Schlumberger, Dirk traveled the world at a young age and lived in many places around the globe. His love of travel continued into his adulthood as his first career began in the oil industry working for D-S. His second career allowed him to travel the United States working as a long-haul truck driver.

Dirk graduated from Lampasas High School in 1973 and attended the University of Texas in Austin where he was a member of the Navy ROTC for two years. In 1978, he graduated from the Academy of Freedom at Howard Payne University with a degree in Political Science. One year later, he married Fairlyn McClintock in Mills County.

Several years after their marriage, they purchased their home in Early where they raised both of their children and still live today.  He was a member of Shiloh Bible Church and was baptized in the Colorado River.  He was also a member of the Emmaus Community.

He was preceded in death by his brother Bart Henry and grandparents.

“Poppa” leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 34 years, Fairlyn McClintock Henry of Early, daughter Hope and husband Eric Barron of San Angelo, son Guy Henry of San Angelo, and granddaughter Addison Barron of San Angelo.  He is also survived by his father Dale Henry and wife Ruth, as well as his mother Jean Sutton and husband Bob, all of Lampasas, in addition to in-laws Melvin and Maxine McClintock of Dumas.

The funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at Early United Methodist Church in Early. Funeral services are being provided by Heartland Funeral Home in Early.  Interment will be at Duren Cemetery in Mills County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the ‘Shiloh Building Fund’, 5003 FM 45 Richland Springs, Texas 76871.

Every person who has ever met Dirk will always have special place in their hearts for him. He was a kind and generous man who gave and gave while asking for nothing in return. He took care of others when he was unsure of his own health and safety because he truly put others’ needs before his own. His life was full of joy and happiness and those who were lucky enough to have known him were always grateful for the time they were able to spend in his presence. His family and friends were beyond blessed to have him in their lives and they will never stop loving this wonderful gift from God. You will never leave our hearts Poppa, and you will always be loved.
