Press Release – Keep Brownwood Beautiful (KBB) and the City of Brownwood are hosting a free county wide cleanup on April 1st.  This is an opportunity for residents to clean up and dispose of items and debris for free.  The event will begin at 8 am and end at noon. Cars, pick-ups, and vans can bring their items to Avenues A and Brady which is located under the Austin Avenue (Bill Monroe) Overpass.  Residents with trailer loads will need to go to the landfill at 6800 FM 45 just pass the National Guard Armory.  There will no charge at the landfill between 8 am and noon.  By Texas law, all loads must be covered to avoid items from blowing out.

Each year a free clean up event is held to encourage residents to clean up, meet compliance of city codes, and to prevent illegal dumping.  Research has shown that litter has a snowball effect.  Once there is one piece of litter more will quickly follow.  This is mostly contributed to people perceiving that litter is acceptable in a particular area.  Over time, areas become sites of illegal dumping.  Not only does this look bad but it decreases property values by 7 %.  Illegal dumping sites can be breeding grounds for mosquitos and other pests.

Acceptable Clean Up Items:  Brush, yard debris, household garbage, latex & spray paint (limit 10 gallons), metal, refrigerators (must be free of food), stoves, ovens, a/c units, anti-freeze, car batteries, passenger car tires (max 8 per household, tires will not be accepted from tire dealers or tire resellers.  20 inches or less. No tractor or 18 wheeler tires!), used motor oil (limit 5 gallons), recycling will be collected at the Community Plaza across the street from underpass.

(NO HAZARDOUS WASTE!!!)

Electronic Items: Computers, printers, copy machines, fax machines, scanners, cameras, batteries VCR/VCD/DVD players, MP3players.

The entrance to the cleanup area will be on Brady Avenue next to backside of the Brownwood Intermediate School.
