Funeral services for Mary Katheryn McBride, age 88, of Brownwood will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 2 PM at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Cox Cemetery in McCulloch County. Ms. McBride died Friday, January 1, 2016.
Katheryn was born November 22, 1927 to Bert Carl and Gaynell Nova (Weldon) McBride of the Sloan Community.
She graduated as Valedictorian of Richland Springs Class of 1945; graduated from Texas Women’s University, Denton in 1949 and attended California State University in Los Angeles, California. She was an Alumni of all three.
Katheryn taught school for one year at Sloan Community in a one-room school house. She also taught school in Oxnard, California for five years and Pasadena Unified School District until her retirement. She would still substitute as needed until her mother was ill. Her many loves included photography (taking pictures), shows in Las Vegas and Branson, birds—especially red birds, and bridge. She belonged to bridge clubs in both Brownwood and Pasadena. Katheryn also loved traveling and traveled all over the world throughout her life.
Those left behind to cherish her memories are her sister, Gloria Leslie of California, favorite cousin, Gordon McBride and wife, Anita of Boerne/Buffalo Gap, dearest friend, Carl Boivin, wife Teri and daughter Kimberly Waneck of Brownwood and close friend, Mary Rogers of Brownwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; cousin, Margie Sokolnicki of Mandin, North Dakota, and several aunts and uncles.
