Texas Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers for the month of July with the city of Brownwood posting gains once again, and Early showing an improvement over recent months.
Brownwood’s sales tax allocations for July 2011 are up 6.02% over July of last year. The city is continuing to show an increase of 6.34% year-to-date.
The City of Early saw another drop in their sales tax allocations for July, but only by a small margin. It was down 0.25% over July of last year, but still shows a drop year-to-date of 5.44% compared to 2010 numbers. Early saw more than a 3% drop last month, and larger decreases since the beginning of the year.
Statewide, Combs will send Texas cities $315.5 million this month, up 6.2 percent compared to July 2010. So far this calendar year, city sales tax allocations are up 6.3 percent compared to the same time period last year.
“The state’s sales tax revenue has now increased for 15 months in a row,” said Combs in a press release. “Strong business spending boosted sales tax revenue in sectors such as the oil and gas industry and manufacturing, and the retail sector continued to show growth.”
July sales tax payments represent sales that occurred in May.
