Juanelle Smith, 85, of Brownwood passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Brownwood Nursing and Rehab. Graveside services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, September 27, at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood with Pastor Bud Williams officiating. Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, September 26, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, 800 Center Ave, Brownwood.
Juanelle was born on September 8, 1927 in Indian Creek, Texas to E.K and Eddie Lou Dixon. She was a graduate of Brownwood High School where she was a champion debater. She attended Howard Payne University where she was a member of the Tennis Team. During her high school and college years, she worked as a proofreader at the Brownwood Bulletin.
She married Marion W. Smith on July 28, 1945, and together they founded Smith Roofing Company in 1947 where she worked for many years in the business office. She later became part owner and administrator of Cross Country Care Center in Brownwood. She enjoyed working with Meals on Wheels and was a member of Rotary-Ann’s. She was a member of the Brownwood Seventh-Day-Adventist Church where she served as Treasurer for years. She enjoyed her grandchildren, reading and playing the piano.
Juanelle is survived by her husband of 65 years, Marion; sons, Dana Smith and his wife Lanna and Damon Smith and his wife Debbie; grandchildren, Blake Smith of Los Angeles, California, Paige Brum of Austin, Texas, Tara Hendrick of Highland Village, Texas, and Ashley Moore of South Lake, Texas; great grandchildren, Preston Hendrick, Olivia Hendrick, Greyson Moore, Grant Moore, Griffin Moore and Georgia Moore and her brother David Dixon and his wife Betty of Schertz, Texas.
The family would like to thank the administration and employees of Brownwood Nursing and Rehab and Dr. David Morales for the loving care they gave to Juanelle.
