Memorial services for Juanell McMahan of Lake Brownwood will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Netherton Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. McMahan died on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, in Covenant Specialty Hospital in Lubbock, Texas, after a lengthy illness.
Juanell was born May 8, 1933, in Haskell, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Claude and Estelle Word of Andrews, Texas. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Tommy McMahan whom she was married to in June of 1972, in Snyder, Texas; son-in-law, David Fish of Lake Brownwood, Texas, formerly of Snyder; brother-in-law, Bill Shaw of Gail, Texas; and one grandson, Paul Steward of Snyder, Texas.
She worked for many years in the floral business. She then went on for a career change and graduated from Ranger College of Beauty School. She owned and operated a beauty salon at Lake Brownwood called Sassy Squirrel. She loved working outdoors in her yard, which she took great pride in. For years she was an avid bowler in which she went to and won the Utah State woman’s championship in 1965. She loved playing bingo where she could visit and talk to friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Fish of Lake Brownwood, Texas, and formerly of Snyder, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Claude and Ruthann Smith of Snyder, Texas; sister, LaJean Shaw of Gail, Texas; several grandchildren including Daniel Fish and Misty Kent of Lake Brownwood, Texas, Dustin and Holly Fish of Corsicana, Texas, Thad Davis of Snyder, Texas, Jonathan Davis of Snyder, Texas, Jo Illene and William Brennen of Odessa, Texas; several great-grandchildren; nieces, Denise Carter of Gail, Texas, and Debbie Bayer and husband Scott of San Angelo, Texas; nephew, Steve Bearor of Gulf Port, Miss.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
