Funeral services for Juan Perez Cardenas, 64, of Knox City and formerly of Brownwood will be held Friday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 18 at the funeral home.  (Mr. Cardenas passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Knox County Hospital on Thursday, January 11, 2018.)

Juan was born in Vidor, Texas on November 20, 1953.  He attended Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, Texas and was a long-time resident of Brownwood until residing in several nursing facilities, the latest being Brazos Valley Care Home in Knox City.  He was also a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana in Brownwood where he received his baptism.  During his lifetime, Juan would always bow his head in reverence and display humility and respect to the Lord, both when alone and during times of prayer with family members.  Shortly before his passing, he affirmed that he was secure in knowing that he was in the hollow of God’s hand.

While in Brownwood, Juan with his long hair in a ponytail, could be seen almost daily walking about and visiting with friends and acquaintances.  He was known by many names:  Juan, Juanito, Johnny, Yani, El Mudo and Bubba.  He thoroughly enjoyed visiting and worked hard to “chat” with gestures and with pen to paper and pen to hand.  Juan loved to read, especially about cars, motorcycles and current events.

Juan is survived by three brothers and their spouses:  Eduardo/Wally (Barbara) Cardenas, Arturo/Arthur (Susan) Cardenas, Jose/Joe (Ronnie) Cardenas; two sisters:  Erlinda (Carlos) Trillor of Buena Park, California and Susana (Jaime) Ceniceros of Coleman, Texas.  Other survivors include uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Andres Rosales Cardenas and Juanita Perez Cardenas, maternal grandparents Juan and Carmen Perez and paternal grandparents Jose and Elvira Cardenas.  The family is sincerely grateful for prayers and condolences.
