NeefeMemorial Services for Joyclin Ann Neefe (Joy), age 83, of Brownwood will be held Saturday September 17, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Davis-Morris Funeral Home in Brown County with Don Scroggs and Larry Mathis officiating, burial of remains to follow at Greenleaf Cemetery.

Born in Brownwood, Texas on October 16, 1927 to Christine Eaton, and raised by her mother and father Mark Julian Calloway, amongst many aunts, uncles, cousins, and her loving grandparents in 1930’s Brownwood. She was a true Brownwood native whose family dated back to the early 1900’s Brownwood; and exemplified membership of that Greatest Generation.

Joy was a mother, grandmother, friend, teacher, world traveler, fisherwoman and animal lover. She loved the little children and never met someone whom she would not help if it was in her power. Mother was kind, loving, stubborn, a great mom who loved her children to a fault, and so much more. She had so many other children that just the ones she gave birth to. We heard so many times “your mother was more like a mother to me than my own.” And “when I think of my entire life, it started when Joy said, I believe in you.” She is sitting with Jesus now asking how can she help and she will have it all organized when the rest of us get there, you can bet on that.

Her life was full and she did so many incredible things that it was like a storybook, she wrote journals of all the magic places she went and the things she did. She loved traveling up and down the Amazon, camping in the jungles along the way, making sure to befriend any human that crossed her path. The photos she took on her travels were not scenic, but were the faces of the children and their families across the world. The entire world is a better place because she was in it and those are not empty words; she put her money and time where her mouth was. A born educator, during her travels she always spoke to the teachers of the poor countries and never failed to come home and send a care package of the things they would need. She wanted all children to have the same chance we had in this country. This world, in her eyes, was a good place and it inhabitants had goodness in them.

Mother is now free from the diseases that plagued her in later life, and she is walking in Heaven pointing that finger and trying to make things better, always. She has joined those that she loved so dearly that have awaited her arrival in Heaven; her precious mother and father, her beloved grandparents and cousins, and her late husbands, John R. Quick and Charlie Neefe.

Those of us who are left behind to carry her legacy on are her Novio Al King, her three children and their families, John Mark Quick, wife DeeDee, grandchildren Amber, John Robert and Mandy, Lisa Flood, husband Denzil, grandson Alex and Robert J. Quick, wife Karen, granddaughters Keera and Kelsey. God has blessed us richly! In lieu of flowers donations may be made to FROG Association at Greenleaf Cemetery.
