Funeral services Joyce Benson, age 86, of Brownwood, will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 18, 2018 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Gouldbusk Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
Mrs. Benson passed away on Sunday at her home surrounded by family.
Joyce Benson was born on January 5, 1932 in Gouldbusk to Nathan J. and Eva (Fields) Woods. She attended school at Bangs and married Amon Benson on December 23, 1948 in Brownwood. Joyce worked for Brownwood ISD at Northwest Elementary for nineteen years before retiring in 1994. She was a Methodist by faith. She loved to travel and take care of her pets.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 69 years, Amon Benson; two daughters, Debbie Gotcher of Brownwood and Brenda Powell and husband Roy of Grape Creek; three grandchildren, Melissa Phillips and husband David of Early, Randy Powell and wife Bridget of San Antonio and Scotty Gotcher of Brownwood; five great-grandchildren, Collin Phillips, Zoe Phillips, Trevor Phillips, Rowan Powell and Sage Powell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Elmer Woods and Catherine Waldrop.
