Services for Joy Parker, 76, of Brownwood will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early. Reception will be from 3-4p with the service following. Mrs. Parker died on Friday Feb 14 at home.
She was born July 30, 1937 in Brownwood, to C.W and Avis McCullough. A Graduate of Baylor University (’59), she was a registered Nurse and educator for 55 years. She spent her early years traveling abroad with her Baptist Missionary parents in San Andreas, Columbia, and Jamaica and spent her life in the church as a pianist and organist. In addition to her BA in Nursing, she held a Master’s Degree in Education and Doctorate work in Education.
Most recently, Joy was the Executive Director of Midway Family Planning which she established in 1999. Joy taught Nursing for more than 30 years. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Wade Parker; and three children Carole Parker-Smith of Brownwood; Charles Parker and wife Donna of Belton; and Col. Chad Parker and wife Col. Laurie Hummel of Anchorage, AK; 4 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Don McCullough, age 41 and Daniel, newborn.
