Joshua Cody Stevens died peacefully in Abilene, TX on August 8, 2016 at the age of 32.

Joshua is survived by his parents, Gwen Gaines of Blanket, TX and Gil Stevens of Democrat, TX; sisters, Kindra Gaines of Blanket, TX and Amanda Stevens of Fort Worth, TX; grandparents Mac and Katy Stevens of Brownwood, TX and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Maxine Carter of Blanket, TX; aunt Pamela Boyd of Brownwood, TX and uncle Nicky Gaines of Blanket, TX.

Joshua was born on December 15, 1983 in Brownwood, TX. He graduated from Blanket High School in 2002. Joshua spent many years working in the oil field but always made his way back to Brown County where his heart was truly home.

Joshua was a joy to all around him and deeply loved by many. He enjoyed making people laugh and his heart was even bigger than his smile. Children were drawn to his affectionate personality and he loved them as if they were his own. Joshua loved hunting, fishing, helping others and telling grand stories. He will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Heartland Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Day Officiating.  Interment will follow in the Democrat Cemetery in Mills County.   The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Friends are invited to join the family at the Democrat Community Center after the services for a meal and fellowship to celebrate Joshua’s life.
