CarlJohnsonThe Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Brownwood District has named Carl L. Johnson, P.E. as director of operations.

In his new position, he will oversee maintenance engineering functions including maintenance and bridge repair contract development, maintenance budget, roadway maintenance, equipment, roadside management and emergency response.  His responsibilities also include traffic engineering functions such as traffic signals, lighting, signing, speed zoning and roadway striping operations.

Johnson began his career at TxDOT in the district’s Lampasas Area Office in 1995. He then moved to the district’s operations office in 2001, where he has held the positions of engineering assistant, transportation engineer and transportation engineering supervisor. Most recently, he served as the district’s maintenance and traffic engineer.

Previously, Johnson worked for Austin Bridge & Road, Inc. in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as Prater Equipment Co. of Comanche.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering technology from Texas Tech University and became licensed as a professional engineer in 2007.

Johnson and his wife, Angela, reside in Mills County with their three children. He is active in his church and enjoys family activities, ranching, hunting and fishing.
