Brownwood High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes will feature Johnny “Lam” Jones as their guest speaker Monday, November 18th. The event will be held at Coggin Baptist Church Christian Life Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public and is free of charge.  Area schools are welcome to bring students as well.

Jones is from Lampasas and currently resides in Round Rock, Texas.  While attending Lampasas High School, he set the stadium record at Gordon Wood Stadium in the 100 yard dash, which still stands to this date.  The race is no longer called the 100 yard dash, as it is now 100 meters.

Jones went on that year to make the USA Olympic team and won a gold medal in the 4×100 relay.  He also earned 6th place in the 100 yard dash.

After the Olympics, he attended the University of Texas where he was a wide receiver and track star.  After college he was drafted by the New York Jets and played receiver for them for several years.

Although his athletic career was quite amazing, life hasn’t always been good for Johnny.  He made some bad decisions and later was diagnosed with cancer. All this humbled him and he was able to see God’s plan for him to share his story so others might learn to rely on God and not themselves.
