John Wayne Gober, Sr., age 68, of Brownwood died Tuesday morning at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Slaymaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Wednesday.
He was born October 28, 1942 in Brownwood the son of the late John Elijah and Flossie Qualls Gober. He was of the Pentecostal faith and had lived in the Brownwood area all of his life. He married Linda Horton at Brady, Texas on March 27, 1975. Together they owned Ace Tree Service of Brownwood.
John was someone who was known to help many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Linda Gober of Brownwood; 4 Sons – Royce Daniel Gober, Robert Hamill, and Jeffrey Shane Hamill all of Brownwood and Kenneth Hamill of Fort Worth; 9 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren; 4 Brothers – Melvin Qualls of Brownwood, John Gober of San Antonio, Gary Gober of Kerrville, Clayton Gober of Kerrville; a Sister – Juanell Carlisle of Brownwood; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Brenda Gober; 2 Sons – Charles Wayne Gober and Johnny Gober; a grandson, Chris Gober; and a sister, Leona Reynolds.
