John was born to John and Myrtle (Norris) Geer on February 26, 1936 in the community of Concord, Texas. While teaching school at Mercedes he met Joy Bradeen Geer and they were married July 6, 1967. John graduated from Bangs High School in 1955 and spent the following two years stationed in Alaska serving in the U.S. Army before returning home to work on the family farm and attended Howard Payne University. He received a degree in education and taught for 29 years in the Texas public school system in various cities across the state. John maintained lifelong friendships with many ex-students and was very proud of the achievements of his students. He spent the final 20 years of his career in Brownwood and retired in 1995. Afterward, he enjoyed his passion of farming and ranching and he loved time spent at the farm with family and friends. John’s cattle were his “babies” and if you were anywhere near during feeding time you could hear his “c’mon babies” echoing down the Mukewater Creek. John was a lifelong member of the Concord Baptist Church. He enjoyed many vacations with family and friends.

John leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 48 years, Joy; daughters Lisa Dick and husband Eric of Brownwood and Marie Harlow and husband Jeremy of Stephenville; grandchildren Emily Dick, Robert Dick, Logan Dick, Brinkley Harlow and Kamdyn Harlow; sisters Novella Geer and Freddie Jay; sister-in-law Virginia Thornburg and husband Rodney; numerous loved cousins, nieces and nephews, family and friends and of course his beloved Australian Shepherd, Cheater.

John was preceded in death by his father and mother, sister Cedonia Simons and brother-in-law Ire Simons, and two infant brothers.
