Funeral services with military honors for John Cronier, age 79, of Brownwood, will be at 2:30 PM, Saturday, December 1, 2012 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Alan Morris officiating. Cremation will follow under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home with internment to follow at a later date in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
Mr. Cronier died Thursday, November 29, 2012 in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
John Marshall Cronier was born on June 11, 1933 in Montgomery, Alabama to Alfred and Sara (Blackwell) Cronier. He attended Montgomery schools and the University of Alabama before joining U. S. Army. He married Mary Ann Bowen on June 1, 1962 in Brownwood.
John made a career out of the Army, serving his country for twenty-three years. After his retirement from the Army, John and his family moved to Brownwood. He started a second career in office machine repair for Turner Office Supply. John was a member of Melwood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon before Melwood Baptist merged with Woodland Heights Baptist Church, which later became Southside Baptist Church. At Southside Church, John also served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, and assisted with the church services in the local nursing homes. John served his community as a former board member of Good Samaritan Ministries and a former member of the Downtown Brownwood Lions Club.
John is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Cronier of Brownwood, two daughters, Nancy Beverly and husband John of Stephenville, Karen Ochoa of Early; five grandchildren, Laura and Brooke Beverly of Stephenville, Alex Ochoa and wife Carly of Little Rock, Arkansas, Crystal Ochoa, and Wes Marshall Ochoa, both of Early; a brother Fred Cronier of Montgomery, Alabama, and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Albert Deming Cronier, Jr, and two sisters, Myrtle Christian and Francis Stringer.
