Brownwood News – John Benner announces his candidacy for San Saba County Sheriff and Tax Assessor-Collector, positions in which he dutifully served for three terms, from 1988 until 2000.   According to a statement from the Benner campaign, his 32 years of law enforcement experience will bring stability, direction and focus to those offices.

Born in San Saba County, Benner attended San Saba schools and received his law enforcement certification from Central Texas College in Killeen.  In addition to his 20 years of service to San Saba County, he served in both Mills and Brown County before retiring from public service as a Master Peace Officer and continuing his work of over 40 years in the cattle business.

John is married to his wife of 56 years, Margie Lee.  Together they raised their son, Duaine, and daughter, Shana, both SSHS graduates.

The announcement of his candidacy states “Love and concern for this community compel John to step up and work to protect life and property and rid San Saba County of the drug scourge that causes crime and dependence.  John has a proven track record of being an honest, efficient and dependable public servant for all citizens in the county and a good steward of entrusted resources.”
