He enlisted in the U. S. Navy on July 16, 1953 and did basic training at Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended Aircraft Mechanic school in Norman, Oklahoma and Memphis, TN. He was honorably discharged on September 7, 1956. Following his discharge, he worked for Miami Power & Light and then returned to Brownwood and attended Howard Payne College. He was employed by the Texas Highway Department as Purchaser for the District Warehouse in Brownwood where he served for 25 years. On June 6, 1959 he married Oneale Tidwell at the Blanket Church of Christ, a union that has lasted 57 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Marshall Elbert Tabor and Mackie Estell Tabor; his sister, Ruth Winnell Thurman; and his son, Joe Randall Tabor. Survivors include his wife, Oneale; his daughter, Terrie Tabor Lemmons and husband Shannon Brincefield; his son, Tyler Neal Tabor and wife Jamie; his six grandchildren, Tana Brooke Simpson, Dustin Joe Tabor and wife Jessica, Deanna Grace Tabor, Chandler Paige Tabor, Taylor Kamren Lemmons, Brilee Kay Tabor; and one great-grandchild, Summit Neal Tabor.
