JoeGreenJoe Ray Green, age 84 of Zephyr passed away Tuesday February 2, 2010 in his home.  Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm Friday February 5, 2010 at the Bethel Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Jenkins Springs Cemetery.  Pastors Buddy Cobb and John Villarreal will officiate the services.  Visitation will be held Thursday February 4, 2010, from 6-8pm at the funeral home.  Services are under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Joe Ray Green was born August 10, 1925 in Brown County, to his parents Bob and Beulah Green. He married Winelle Mason on August 30, 1946, in the home of his parents near Zephyr. Joe was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. He was a product of the depression, due to that he was a most unselfish person.  Joe always had a heart for anybody in need, especially if they needed shoes.  The most important things in Joe’s life were the Word of God, Missions, and his family, which he loved dearly.  He was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, and he never missed an opportunity to share the gospel.  Joe strongly believed in tithing to the church and did so himself.  He was an early riser who looked forward to starting his day.  Joe also enjoyed tending his livestock and going to the sale barns.

Mr. Green was preceded in death by his wife Winelle Green, his parents, and his brother Harry Otto Green.  Harry served his country during World War II as a B-17 co-pilot and was shot down over the North Sea.

Survivors include three children; Joe Mason Green and wife Margaret of Early, George David Green and wife Patricia of Zephyr, and Kathy Skalak and husband Joe of Rochelle, his brother Robert Snow Green of Bastrop, six grandchildren; Robert Nathaniel Green, II of Early, Rebekah Jo Dean and husband Dakota of Brownwood, Christine Elizabeth Blakesley and husband Mike of Maui, HI, Catherine Green of Austin, Wesley Joe Skalak and wife Megan of Weatherford, and Leigh Ann Aylesworth of Ft. Worth, and four great-grandchildren Draven Aylesworth, Jackson Wyatt Skalak, Lucas Dean Skalak, and Benjamin David Blakesley.

Donations may be made to the Baptist Cooperation Program in Mr. Green’s Honor, which can be made through a local church.
