Funeral Services for Joe Allen Forbess, age 82,of Brownwood will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday January 22, 2011 at the Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Davis Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Forbess passed away Wednesday morning in Brownwood.
Joe was born August 14, 1928, in Brownwood, Texas, to Cecil and Velma (Thompson) Forbess. He married Wanda Taylor in Brownwood August 3, 1951 and she preceded him in death. He worked as an animal patrol officer for the City of Brownwood, and as a jailor, and dispatcher for both the City and Brown County Sherriff’s Department. Joe then decided to go to work for B.I.S.D. as a bus driver and mechanic before retiring. He was also a founding member and several time president of REACT club.
He is survived by two sons, Joe Dean Forbess of Brownwood, and Terry Savoie and wife Kay of Hamby, Tx and their granddaughter Skyler; grandchildren, Michael Savoie, Mindy Bailey, and Sharla Savoie; several great grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Connaway and husband Delbert of Brookesmith; nephew, Wayne Ely and wife Bonnie of Brownwood; and a niece, Janie Ely of Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Wanda Taylor Forbess.
