Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas , Brownwood Economic Development Corporation and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to offer a private Job Fair, Wednesday, June 29th, for all TYC employees potentially looking for another career path in the near future due to the upcoming closure of the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex Unit II.
The job fair is open to all Brown County employers that have open positions within their organization to be filled within the next few weeks. It is mandatory that all business participants fill out an application form and return it to the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce no later than June 22nd. All applicants will be screened to ensure that they will meet the needs of the TYC employees attending the Job Fair. With only 20 spaces available, it is imperative that organizations wishing to participate actually have a need for employees in the immediate future.
The Board of the Texas Youth Commission announced on June 3rd that the agency will close three of its 10 secure institutions by August 31, 2011, including the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex Unit II in Brownwood. The closure will affect about 100 jobs in the area. The Ron Jackson Unit I, which houses female students and is the larger of the two units, will remain open.
