TYCJobFair2

Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas, Brownwood Economic Development Corporation and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a private job fair Wednesday for all Texas Youth Commission (TYC) employees who are looking for a new career path due to the upcoming closure of the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex Unit II.

Many companies from across the area that are looking for employees set up booths and passed out information to those in attendance.  Many of the prospective employees filled out applications at the fair hoping to line up new employment in anticipation of the facility’s closure.   Companies such as Loadcraft, Barr Fabrication, Wal-Mart, Howard Payne University, and others distributed information and talked to the TYC employees being affected by the closure.   TSTC and Ranger College also were in attendance giving information about possible career training for some of the employees.  Many of those looking for work included correctional officers, human resource managers, cooks, maintenance, and clerical positions.

The Board of the Texas Youth Commission announced on June 3rd that the agency will close three of its 10 secure institutions in the next few months, including the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex Unit II in Brownwood.   The closure will affect about 100 jobs in the area.   The Ron Jackson Unit I, which houses female students and is the larger of the two units, will remain open.
