Graveside services for Joan Cathey, age 91, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, March 14, 2018 at the IOOF Cemetery in Hamilton with Pastor Brian Hall officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Mrs. Cathey passed away Tuesday at a local nursing home.
Naomi Joan was born on June 6, 1926 in Mineral Wells, Texas to Eric Edward and Jennie Swoap Kingston. After graduating from Eastland High School in 1943, Joan attended Cisco Junior College, University of Houston and University of North Texas. During her working career she was employed by the Dallas Times Herald, Pollock Paper Company, St. Regis Paper Company, Champion Paper Company and retired from International Paper Company. Joan was married to Billy Ray Cathey on January 6, 1977 in Waxahachie, Texas and he preceded her in death on February 20, 2012.
Survivors include Toni McMillian and husband Wayne of Early; Duane Becktold and wife Augustine of Early; son-in-law Walter Hill Of Early; great grandchildren Dustin Becktold, Sidney Becktold, Chase McMillian, Malissa Karnes and Kassidy Karnes She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Judy Hill and brother Eric Keith Kingston.
