A memorial service for Jimmie Rawls, age 81, of Brownwood will be held 3:00 PM Saturday February 23, 2019 at the Shiloh Church. He passed away February 3, 1019 at his residence.
Jimmie Lee was born of March 1, 1937 in San Saba, Texas to Henry Eli and Dovie Lee Smith Rawls. Jimmie moved to Houston area and worked as a carpenter before being employed by Monsanto Chemical Plant for 13 years. The welding bug eventually got him and he joined the 211 Union and later the Plumber – Pipefitting Union 522 in Kentucky. When the construction work in Houston got slow, he went to Alaska and worked on the pipeline. He always said “If I’d been a young man when I went to Alaska I would never have come back to the lower 48.” Jimmie is survived by his sister Lorena Terry of San Saba, his life partner Clara Rawls of Brownwood, longtime friend Davis Wall of Burnet and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Darrel Terry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer and Heart Foundations.
