Jimmie Lee Gill, 74, of Blanket passed away Monday, February 3, 2020.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 8, 2020 in the United Methodist Church of Blanket, 511 Main St, Blanket, TX 76432.
Jim Gill was born June 5, 1945 in Miami, Texas to Alton Alford and Minty Glynus Gill. He graduated school in Miami and attended Texas Tech University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. Jim married Sherry Ballard in August of 1970 in Borger. Jim loved his family. He was the youngest of eight children and he always said that was how he learned to eat any and everything. He was a loving husband and caring father. He was known as “Bop” by his grandchildren. He enjoyed driving them around in his Mossimo. That was the way he babysat them. Most of the time he enjoyed the quiet things in life, reading, fishing, listening to good stories by friends, the mountains of New Mexico and gardening. Yes, his lettuce, spinach and onions are already coming up. Jim worked at the Texas Cattle Feeders Association from 1975 until he retired in 2008. He loved the people he worked with and all the members. Jim always loved numbers and being Market Director was the right job for him. He was well respected throughout the livestock industry and his expertise and insights were sought by producers. Jim often said that he would rather quail hunt than eat. He was eager to teach young kids the joys of hunting and fishing. He retired to Blanket, Texas to be close to children, grandchildren and long-time friends. He was always ready to meet new people and share their tales. He loved the little white Blanket United Methodist Church and its’ members. His home in Blanket became his “tranquility.” He will be missed.
Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sherry Gill of Blanket; son, Cody Gill of Blanket; daughter, Erica and husband Matt Templeton; grandson, Kuper Templeton; granddaughters, Avery and Addison Templeton all of Early; many brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces and friends.
