Big Brothers Big Sisters of Brown County held their annual signature fundraising event Wheels and Deals on Saturday, giving away a new vehicle.
The winner of the reverse raffle was James “Jim” Williams, who stated he was shocked to have won.
“I’m still trying to process all of this,” said Williams after he was announced as the winner.
Williams said that he recently moved back to Brownwood from Houston. He had not made a decision as to which vehicle he would select at the time of the event.
Williams won this reverse raffle and will have his choice between a brand new 2012 Dodge Journey, 2012 Ford F150 Extended Cab Pickup, or a 2012 Camry.
Raffle tickets were sold in exchange for a donation of $100 to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Brown County. Organizers report that 373 tickets were sold for this year’s event.
As the 13th ticket was drawn, participants were given the chance to buy the ticket which was auctioned off and put back into the drawing. The lucky 13th ticket was bought for $700 by Kenny Dillard who made into the top 10 tickets.
The “Deal” part of the event began when the drawing was down to the final 10 entries and those at the event could bid on the final tickets if the ticket holder is willing to sell. Bids of over $1000 were turned down the final five contestants.
Big Brothers and Sister board members honored longtime Big Brother Don Benedict, who has been a mentor since the 1960s, during the event.
