Jesse James Jackson, 89, of Houston and former resident of Silver Valley, died Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital in Katy.  Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.  Committal service with Military Honors will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 West Lake Road, Abilene.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Jesse James Jackson was born November 30, 1926 in Westminster in Collin County to Felix Owen Jackson and Effie Lee Hendrix Jackson.  He grew up in east Texas and Oklahoma.  He graduated from Stephenville Academy and later from East Texas State Teachers College.  He served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon.  Jesse lived in various cities in Texas and came to Coleman County in 1967.  He worked for the Soil Conservation Service and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Jackson of Houston; one daughter, June Verrett of Houston; two sons, Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Fort Worth, John Larkin Jackson of Livermore, California; one brother, Jackie Wayne Jackson of Richardson; one sister, Jo Hudgins of Fort Worth; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by four brothers, E.O. Jackson, Douglas R. Jackson, Tracy Lee Jackson, Owen Jackson; two sisters, Marie Pierce and Joyce Futch.
