Funeral services for Jerry Brooks, 46, of Brownwood will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church with Pastor Courtene’y Martin officiating.
Jerry passed away Thursday, April 29, 2011, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Brownwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. with the family present at Lee Chapel.
Jerry was born Oct. 1, 1964, in Lubbock, Texas, to Willie Ray and Marie DeGrate Brooks. Jerry attended public schools in Brownwood and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1982. After graduation Jerry went to work for the City of Brownwood and was employed there for over 10 years. He later worked for Draco’s Janitorial Service and retired from there in January 2011.
Jerry was a hard working man who loved his church and his family. Jerry joined Lee Chapel Church in 1992 and was a faithful member until he died. He was appointed to the Trustee Board in 2001 under the pastorage of Minister Mary Miller. He also served as Usher, Member of Steward Board and Chairman of the Kitchen Committee. In 2008 Jerry was appointed Chairman of the Youth Department.
Jerry loved to fish, cook, and especially barbecue for his family and friends.
Jerry is survived by one daughter, Jatara Walker of Fort Worth; two sons, Akeem J. Richard of Dallas and Mister Romeo Brooks of Abilene; two brothers, Willie Ray Brooks Jr. and Robert Brooks; seven sisters, Lillie Houston, Ertha Williams, Vera Brooks, Linda Duffie, Nancy Brooks, Janetha Brooks and Angel Brooks; two grandchildren, Ja’Kayla and Jamal Piper; brother-in-law, Larry Johnson; special friend, Will Morgan; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
All services are under the direction of Brownwood Funeral Home.
