Jerrel Stephens Carman of Brownwood, Texas passed away December 30, 2017. Jerrel was born on April 19, 1929 to Dee Jerrel Carman and Delora Rowland Carman in Jones County, Texas. He graduated from Anson High School in 1947 and attended Cisco Junior College.
Jerrel married Wilma Dee Snell on April 27, 1951. He joined the United States Army, serving during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He received the Purple Heart. Upon his completion of service, he returned to Anson where he began his 39-year career with Walsh and Watts, Inc., and where his son, Jerrel Dee and daughter, Juan, were born. The family moved to Odessa, Texas in 1957, when Jerrel was made Area Superintendent. Throughout his lifetime, Jerrel unselfishly and patiently shared his passion for gardening, water skiing, and fishing. Many of the family’s most joyous vacations took place at Lake Brownwood State Park. Upon retirement, Jerrel and Wilma moved to Lake Brownwood and Jerrel continued to share his passions with his grandchildren (Brent, Tausha, Cheryl, Stephanie, and Cory) and his nine great grandchildren (MacKenzie, Tanner, Bryce, Brayden, Landon, Colter, Emma, Levi, Wesley). In retirement, Jerrel developed a network of good friends at the local dances. Jerrel was a member of FUMC of Bangs and former member of Lake Brownwood UMC.
Jerrel is survived by his wife, Wilma, his son and daughter-in-law, Jerrel Dee and Tamara Carman of Victoria, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Juan and Billy Helms of Spicewood and Houston, Texas; his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Betty Carman of Granbury, Texas; his sister and brother-in-law, Joye and Fred Childers of Anson, Texas; his five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jeanne McCarty and his brother, Wayland Carman.
Graveside services for Jerrel will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 2 PM at Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Jerrel’s family would like to say thank you to the staff of Solaris Hospice for providing the care and support that allowed Jerrel to remain in his beloved lake home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a charity of choice.
