SHIPLEYTD4Brownwood High School senior Jaxon Shipley scored the first touchdown of the game for the West team Saturday at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio.  Shipley had a 35 yard touchdown reception from quarterback Cody Kessler giving the West a 10-0 lead in the third quarter.

The East came alive in the final 12 minutes of play however with a Teddy Bridgewater 22-yard touchdown pass to Miles Shuler and a 3-yard touchdown run by James Wilder.  In the end, the East took the game 13-10.

The game and Shipley’s skills were showcased on national television as the game was broadcast on NBC.  Shipley also showed his generosity by signing countless autographs and throwing the football he caught into the crowd of soldiers as a souvenir.

Shipley was one of only 90 high school football players in the United States to be selected this year to play in the game, and he made his mark by being involved in one of the few scoring plays of the game.

Shipley had 86 receptions for 1656 yards and 27 touchdowns for the Brownwood Lions in their 2010 season taking them to the semi-final round of the playoffs.

Shipley has committed to the University of Texas.
