Jaxon Shipley is once again receiving honors for his athletic abilities as this week’s Abilene Reporter News Big Country Player of the Week.
Shipley, currently a junior at Brownwood High School, helped lead the Brownwood Lions football team to 10-3 record and winning district 2-3A, bi-district, and area championship titles for 2009.
Last week at the District 2-3A track meet, Shipley earned gold medals in the 110 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and the long jump and also placed third as a member of the 400 relay team and personally in the triple jump.
Shipley scored his personal best times in the 110 hurdles (14.16) and the 300 hurdles (38.1). His 38.1 time in the 300 hurdles was the year’s best time of any Big Country athlete. Although he did not qualify for the regional meet in the triple jump, he will be participating in the 1600 relay team.
