Brownwood City Council proclaimed January 21, 2013 as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the city of Brownwood at Tuesday morning’s council meeting.

Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes read a proclamation that recognized Dr. King’s work, which changed the course of American history through improving civil rights and equality.  Haynes encouraged all residents of Brownwood to “reflect upon the life and accomplishments of Dr. King and recognize that his vision continues to provide a powerful symbol of life based on the values of love, compassion and justice.”

Councilman Draco Miller thanked the city for recognizing Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 21st and announced that there will be a march from the Bennie Houston Center on Cordell Street to the Martin Luther King Park on W. Austin and W. Commerce to commemorate his life and accomplishments.  There may also be a candlelight service announced at a later date.
