James Alton “Buzz” Bivens, Sr., age 78 of Brownwood, went Home to meet his Lord, on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. No visitation is scheduled.
James was born on December 18, 1932, in Wilson, TX in Lynn County to James Sidney Bivens and Lois Ellen Oliver. He graduated from Bangs High School, where he was a 4 year letterman in football. James served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He worked for the Brown County Water District for 14 years; he then worked for the City of Brownwood. James retired from the City in 1997, after over 17 years of service. On October 5, 1974, James was married to Janith Rose Clapper at Faith Baptist Church, by Dr. J. A. McDaniel. He was a member of Faith Baptist since he and Janith were married. James enjoyed watching football and reading about and watching shows about history. He was a good, kind man; loved by his family and friends and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the General Fund at Faith Baptist Church or a charity of your choice, in memory of James A. Bivens, Sr.
Mr. Bivens was preceded in death by his brothers Amon Bivens and Louis Bivens and wife Linda of Ft. Worth.
Survivors include his wife, Janith Rose of Brownwood; his son, James Alton Bivens, Jr. and wife Sonja of Arlington; siblings, Elnora Hagar of Beebee, AR and Jerry Bivens and wife Brenda of Conway, AR; two nieces, Mary of Ft. Worth and Verna of AR; stepchildren, Cheryle Carter and husband Mike of Angle, TX, Chris Hart and wife Jerrie of Springtown, TX, Rosemary Kinman and husband Gary, and Tobin Bivens and wife Tracy of Westfork, AR; grandchildren, Lori Bivens of Plano and Randi Bivens of Arlington; step grandchildren, Nichole Thompson, Cindy Henderson, Jim Hart, Michael Gordon, Greg Kinman, Alex Bivens, Justin Bivens, and Heather Bivens; and step great-grandchildren, Jordan Henderson, Noah Henderson, and Nickoli Henderson.
